Criminal investigations can result in a variety of different types of criminal charges. Often, law enforcement officials are looking for illegal drugs. Investigations often revolve around the transportation or sale of large quantities of these drugs. If people are caught in these situations, they can face harsh penalties in the criminal justice system.
Three individuals in Oregon were recently arrested on drug charges after a police investigation. According to reports, an investigation between the Multnomah County Special Investigations Unit and the Clark Vancouver Regional Drug Task Force resulted in these arrests.
Police claim that these individuals were trafficking drugs. Specifically, police say that they seized 27 pounds of drugs as a result of this investigation. The drugs included cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin. In addition to the drugs, police say they found a stolen rifle and around $218,000 in cash.
These arrests came following a tip that these individuals would be traveling with a large supply of narcotics. Police say that they observed a cash transaction before following two cars south on Interstate 5. Once in Clark County, officers stopped the vehicles and found two pounds of heroin. A search warrant on an apartment building led to the other drugs, the weapon and the cash. More cash was found in a safe in Portland, which belonged to one of the suspects.
People who have been accused of drug charges in Oregon need to be aware of their legal rights. Police must follow certain protocol while carrying out investigations. If police violate a suspect's constitutional rights, any evidence that they obtain may not be admissible in a court of law. By understanding their legal rights and by mounting an aggressive criminal defense, people can fight criminal charges.
