Driving is a mixture of fun and responsibility for many Oregon residents. While many people enjoy driving, operating a motor vehicle must be done with great care to avoid injuring anyone else. Therefore, Oregon has passed a series of laws that regulate under what circumstances people can drive.
As most people know, drunk driving is prohibited under Oregon law. In fact, operating under the influence of either alcohol or drugs is prohibited. Despite these prohibitions, however, it can be easy for people to make the mistake of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
If this happens, other people can get hurt, and the driver can face serious criminal charges. These charges have the potential to change a person's life forever.
Recently, an Oregon man was charged with a variety of criminal charges including DUII, manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide following a serious car accident. According to reports, the 27-year-old man had been driving his Prius when he hit a woman. Reports claim that the woman had been in the cross walk at the time of the accident.
The initial impact of the accident is said to have thrown the woman 35 feet. She suffered serious injuries and died about 11 hours after the accident. Witnesses claim to have seen the man smoking marijuana in his car just prior to the accident. Additionally, police officers claim that the man admitted to feeling "a little high" before the collision.
Combating criminal charges, like those in the recent case, is very important. People do not need to let one mistake dictate the direction of their life. By having a comprehensive criminal defense plan, people may have the chance to avoid long-term consequences for a lapse in judgment.
