Man faces drunk driving charges after traffic stop in Portland

Portland drivers who are facing drunk driving charges need to be cognizant of what they are up against in terms of penalties. Not only can there be incarceration and fines, but there can be the loss of driving privileges and a device placed on the driver's vehicle making it necessary to take a breath test to determine whether or not he or she has been drinking before the vehicle will start. A DUI conviction can have wide-ranging ramifications on a person's life. This is why it may be important to formulate a strong defense to combat the charges.

A 51-year-old man was arrested after a traffic stop and charged with drunk driving. According to law enforcement, the man's blood alcohol content level registered at .34 percent. That is more than four times the legal limit in Oregon. The driver is alleged to have changed lanes without the appropriate signal when he was seen by a law enforcement officer at approximately 5:40 p.m. The officer is said to have tried to stop the man, but he didn't stop in spite of the flashing police lights and siren. Other police vehicles were needed to pin the man in. He was arrested on multiple offenses including driving under the influence, evading police, driving recklessly and driving with a revoked license.

With any type of alcohol-related charges, there are many factors that go into the case. Regardless of the circumstances, law enforcement must follow certain procedures when making the stop. The testing procedures must be conducted fairly. If the procedures are not followed as they should be, then the charges could be rendered invalid. A conviction is not a simple matter of paying a fine as if it were a parking ticket. The threat of incarceration, loss of driving privileges, fines and other punishments can negatively affect a person's life personally and professionally.

In this case, the man is facing many charges for his alleged drunk driving incident. Although his record indicates that this may be a recurrent problem, that does not mean he is guilty in this case. He should strongly consider calling a legal professional for assistance in lodging a defense.
