Four Oregon residents were recently arrested on drug charges. According to police, they served a search warrant on a residence that neighbors had complained about for some time. The neighbors alleged that for the last couple years, people were always coming and going from the house after short visits. Police say that the neighbors suspected drug activity.
Reports say that the search of the property revealed drugs. Police allege that they found packaging material, scales, marijuana and user amounts of methamphetamine in the home. Furthermore, the police say that there was other evidence of methamphetamine distribution, sale and possession within the house. During the raid, police say that four adults -- ranging from 46-years-old to 23-years-old -- were found in the house, along with one child.
Three of the people found in the house were arrested on drug possession charges. The other adult faces more serious drug charges for methamphetamine manufacturing and delivery within 1,000 feet of a school in addition to drug possession charges.
Drug charges, as this case shows, can be quite varied. Depending on the circumstances in each case, the exact charges that an individual will be charged with can change significantly. Factors that can change the charges include the type of drug in the case, where the drugs were found, the amount of drugs found and whether the drugs were being sold or used.
By knowing which factors are important in a particular case, people can put together a criminal defense strategy to fight against the charges. In every case, people are given the opportunity to defend themselves and can try to reduce charges and penalties.
