Have you ever accidentally gone the wrong way on a road? Entered on the wrong side of a divider? It happens more than one might think, but for one young driver it meant a litany of traffic violations and a DUI.
On Friday, Aug. 3 the young man was pulled over by an Oregon patrol officer for driving down the wrong way on Interstate 5. When the officer stopped him near milepost 265, he suspected that the young man had consumed alcohol at some point during the day before getting behind the wheel. This suspicion led to several citations by the officer and an arrest.
The young man was not only charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, but the officer seemed to find several other charges as well. Reckless driving, unlawful possession of a forged instrument, failure to present a driver's license and a number of other minor traffic violations were levied against the individual driver.
The young man is only 25 years old. One error of traffic judgment has left this young man facing several charges -- something that can be quite frightening for anyone. When someone is arrested for drunk driving, it is not uncommon for a patrol officer to find as many violations as he can to charge the individual with.
This is precisely another reason that any individual arrested should invoke their right to have an experienced attorney on their side to not only defend against the charges and minimize penalties, but to ensure that no unnecessary charges have been filed.
