How much medical marijuana can Oregon residents have?

Marijuana use is seen in a lot of different ways across the United States. For some individuals, they believe use of marijuana should be legal in all situations. While others, believe that it should be illegal for adults that want to use the drug. While all states grapple with these issues, Oregon has its own complicated set of marijuana laws. Under these laws, individuals may use marijuana in certain situations without criminal consequences.

One situation where people can use marijuana legally in Oregon is when they have a medical marijuana card. This card is for individual suffering from illnesses where symptoms can be lessened with the use of medical marijuana. Often these severe illnesses are being treated by a doctor who helps the individuals obtain this card.

However, just because an individual is registered in the medical marijuana program in Oregon this does not mean they can have as much marijuana that they want. In fact, under section 475.320 of the Oregon criminal code there are strict limits to the amount of marijuana in individual can have even with a registry identification card.

Specifically, individuals who are registry identification cardholders can have up to six mature marijuana plants. They are also allowed to have up to 24 ounces of usable marijuana in their possession. Amounts in excess of these limits can result in criminal charges. For individuals who are an approved grower of marijuana for individuals holding registration cards, their marijuana cannot exceed the personal limits for four individuals.

It is important for people in Oregon who use medical marijuana to understand how the medical registry works. There are a series of complex laws that apply for individuals to receive a card and to legally use marijuana in the state. Understanding these laws can help individuals avoid criminal charges for misuse of marijuana. An attorney can help to explain these rights and help to defend people from drug charges when they are medical marijuana users.
