Four accused of armed robbery in Oregon

Oregon police investigate both violent crimes and crimes that include theft. When a theft turns violent, those accused can face serious felony charges.

Recently, two Oregon residents have been arrested and are facing criminal charges following an alleged armed robbery. The police are searching for two other suspects. According to police, the four people -- three men and a woman -- worked together to lure a fourth man in to a nearby hotel room. Police claim that the other man was expecting to have sex with a woman he had met online.

However, police say, when the man and woman arrived at the hotel room, the other three men were waiting for them. The three men, according to police, then robbed the man at gunpoint. Following the incident a 36-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man have both been arrested. The other two men -- a pair of brothers aged 27 and 24 -- are wanted by police.

Robbery, especially with a firearm, can lead to serious criminal penalties and consequences. These can include long prison sentences, fines, probation and a permanent criminal record. With a history of convictions on violent crimes, people can find it harder to obtain employment and housing in the future. Furthermore, people can be restricted from owning firearms and from voting if convicted of felonies.

Those accused of felonies including aggravated felonies need to make sure they protect themselves against these punishments. With the right criminal defense strategy, people can raise doubt in the prosecutor's case and have a better chance at avoiding conviction. Or, people can try to negotiate with prosecutors to lower the charges and the potential penalties.
