Buzzed driving can lead to drunk driving charges

Each year around the holidays, many people across the state of Oregon get together to celebrate. As part of the celebrations, people may partake in drinking alcoholic beverages. Many of these individuals will not get drunk. Instead, they may have a drink or two before heading home.

In these situations, the individuals may feel some effects of the alcohol but will feel they are capable of driving. In many cases, people may describe themselves as tipsy or buzzed. People may be under the false impression that unless they are drunk, they cannot be charged with a crime for driving.

However, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation, even if a person is buzzed, that person can face driving under the influence of intoxicant charges. This is because buzzed driving, like drunk driving, can be very dangerous. Even a small amount of alcohol can cause people's reaction time to slow, and it can affect their motor skills.

Instead of taking a chance, the ODOT recommends that individuals rely on a designated driver during the holiday season. People are also encouraged to use public transportation when going out. People should also understand how their prescription medications can affect their alcohol consumption.

By taking certain precautions, people can avoid DUII charges for buzzed driving. However, if people make the mistake of driving after having a small amount of alcohol, they should seek legal help. If a person's blood alcohol content level is below the legal limit, there may be a way to get the charges dismissed. This way, people can avoid the penalties associated with DUII. With the help of an attorney, people in this situation may be able to successfully fight the charges.
