Oregon police charge woman with DUI following erratic driving

An Oregon woman has been arrested following a car accident and fleeing from police. According to police, they received reports about a car driving erratically around 4:25 p.m. Witnesses claim that the car was driving from shoulder to shoulder and weaving in and out of traffic. People claim that at some point, the car hit the median and nearly hit several other cars.

Following these reports a police officer with the Oregon State Police spotted the car and attempted to pull the driver over. According to police, instead of yielding to police demands, the car sped ahead at around 90 miles-per-hour for the next two miles. Eventually, the car was pulled over and the driver was arrested on charges of attempt to elude, reckless driving and DUI. The 26-year-old driver was taken to a local jail following the incident.

Drivers who find themselves with DUI charges in Oregon, need to move quickly to protect their legal rights. While drunk driving is a dangerous choice, it is a mistake that can easily be made by a driver. Without the right help, however, it can have long-term consequences. These consequences can increase when drivers fail to follow police orders, injure others or cause property damage.

However, no matter the circumstances of the DUI arrest, Oregon citizens have the opportunity to defend against the charges. They can do so by questioning police conduct during the arrest. The results of blood alcohol content level tests may not be accurate if all steps are not carefully followed. Furthermore, negotiating with prosecutors may also result in dismissed charges or entrance into a diversion program which can reduce the penalties associated with DUI.
