Oregon police increase DUI patrols for the big game

There are certain times of the year when Oregon residents are more likely to be out drinking. During these times, police understand that there are likely to be more people on the roads who have been drinking and driving. Therefore, police increase patrols in order to try and make as many arrests as possible. These times of the year traditionally include New Years' Eve, Saint Patrick's Day and Super Bowl Sunday.

During the recent Super Bowl, Oregon police will be on the lookout for anyone who appears to have an elevated blood alcohol content level. Police warn both party goers and hosts to know the signs of intoxication and work together to prevent drunk driving. Officials advise people to plan sober rides during and after the big game and caution people to remember to eat and drink slowly to avoid over indulging.

Despite these warnings, some people will likely make the mistake of drinking and driving when their BAC level is over the legal limit. In these cases, people can face criminal charges for driving under the influence. DUI charges are serious and can result in a variety of punishments. These punishments can include large fines, jail time, license suspension or revocation, an ignition interlock device, alcohol education classes and more.

While these punishments can be severe, people can help themselves avoid some of these punishments by exploring their criminal defense options. Particularly, if this is a first-time offense, people may be able to limit some of the punishments associated with DUI by negotiating with prosecutors. Also, challenging police evidence can be a good way to reduce charges. People need to protect their future by fighting DUI charges.
