Rules for medical marijuana retailers being established in Oregon

The legal code in Oregon is immense and complicated. People who have not been specially trained in the laws of the state may have a very difficult time understanding everything that is required of them in a particular situation. Sometimes, even small facts and details can make a big difference -- especially in a criminal case. During a criminal investigation, police are trained to look for these small details to find every possible criminal charge. They know what details are important and could be important evidence in court.

Furthermore, these laws and rules are changing all the time. The legislature and other governing bodies are constantly evolving and so is the criminal code in Oregon. Without the right specialized criminal defense help, those facing criminal charges may not understand all these changes.

One area of the law that is under flux right now in Oregon are those rule pertaining to the distribution of medical marijuana. Earlier this year, the Oregon legislature approved medical marijuana retail shops. However, a committee has recently been created to establish a set of security guidelines that must be followed by those owning or operating these dispensaries.

These proposed guidelines include requiring commercial grade locks and other security measures including video recording. These electronic records must be kept of these recordings. A security system, including alarms must guard each entry. All employees must pass background checks. Furthermore, no marijuana can be consumed on the premises.

These rules and others may be adopted before the retail shops become operational next year. These rules will be important for people to know, understand and follow since serious criminal charges be brought against people who incorrectly use or distribute medical marijuana -- and it is still a federal crime
