Oregon woman arrested twice for DUII in one day

An arrest for driving under the influence can have a serious effect on a person's life. If not handled correctly, the long term consequences -- including a driver's license suspension -- of a DUI can make a big impact on a person for years to come. With each DUI arrest, these consequences increase.

One Oregon woman was recently arrested twice in one day for DUII. According to police, they received reports that a 36-year-old woman was driving under the influence in her Honda Accord. In the report, police say they were given a description of a car and her license plate number. Following this tip, the police found the woman at her home and arrested her for DUII. Police allege that the woman admitted to driving her son and husband home.

Police claim that her blood alcohol content level was at least twice the legal limit when she was arrested and taken to Lane County Jail. She was charged with reckless endangerment, DUII and reckless driving. Police say she was released from jail after a few hours because of overcrowding issues. However, that evening, the woman was arrested and charged with DUII a second time after police officers spotted her driving again.

This case highlight a couple of important points for those charged with DUI or DUII in Oregon to remember. One, those charged with DUI or DUII in Oregon cannot drive for at least 12 hours after an arrest for driving under the influence. If a person is caught driving, like the woman in this case, additional charges can be added which can result in more severe penalties.

Two, people facing DUI charges are not required to submit to police questioning without an attorney present. In this case, the woman would have been able to have her attorney present when the police questioned her about driving the car. People are not obligated to answer police questions or admit to any illegal behavior.
