100 miles-per-hour police chase ends in DUII arrest

Recently, the Oregon Department of Transportation has given local communities grant money to help crack down on people driving under the influence of intoxicants. According to police records, this grant money has helped police arrest 28 people for DUII so far this year. This is almost a 17 percent increase in DUII arrests as compared with 2012.

Another new DUII arrest has been made recently. In this case, a Portland man was arrested on Interstate 205 in West Linn after a car chase. According to police, they saw the man driving over 100 miles-per-hour. The police allege that a chase occurred where the man drove erratically between the other cars on the road.

Once he was finally stopped, police say that a breath test showed that his blood alcohol content level was at .11 percent, which is above Oregon's legal limit. At this point, the man was arrested and taken to Clackamas County Jail. The man was charged with reckless driving in addition to DUII. He was eventually released but will have further court hearings.

While Oregon police may be making more DUII arrests, they still are responsible for proving that people were actually driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Commonly police try to show this through the use of a blood test, field sobriety test or a breath test. However, none of these tests are fool proof or completely accurate. Often times, results can vary significantly based on how the tests are administered, how the police officers are trained and even based on how well the equipment is maintained.

Those facing DUII should always ensure that their BAC level was measured accurately at the time of their arrest. People charged with DUII or other drunk driving charges, may find that police do not always have accurate evidence.
