Following a police search a van in Raleigh Hills, police claims to have found a methamphetamines lab in North Portland.
The van was found near McMillam Street and Southwest 96 Avenue and police say it contained chemicals necessary to make meth and a lot of glassware. After the search of the van, police searched its owner's residence on North Baldwin Street in North Portland and claim to have found a fully operational meth lab. The 54-year-old man who lives in the home now faces felony drug charges.
At the home, police allege to have found the complete meth-making set up. However, at the time of their search, no meth was being made. It is unclear if the police found any actual meth or just the chemicals and equipment to make it. Following the search of his home, the man was arrested and charged with possessing, selling and trying to make meth in Washington County. He may also face additional charges in Multnomah County. Currently, he is in jail and bail is set at $30,000.
In addition to this man's arrest, another individual was found during the search of the van. No information has been released about this person including whether this person is still in police custody.
Felony drug charges, especially drug manufacturing charges like those in this case, can have a serious effect on people's lives. Unlike simple possession charges, manufacturing charges can carry very long prison sentences. Furthermore, since these are felony charges, they can make it difficult for people to find employment and housing following people's release from prison.
Furthermore, drug charges are extremely varied in nature. Their penalties and defenses will change depending on the specific charge. People should make sure they understand the charges against them and how to defend against the specific charges as soon as possible after those charges are brought.
