Man sentenced to life in prison in Portland for sex crimes

Despite maintaining his innocence, a man has been sentenced to life in prison for sex crimes. The man was charged with several felonies including promoting prostitution, sexual abuse, child sex abuse and compelling prostitution. The man will not be eligible for parole.

According to prosecutors in the case, the man would find young vulnerable girls and offer them drugs to get them addicted. When they would need money, he would pimp them out as prostitutes. In the most recent case, prosecutors alleged that his youngest victim was 16-years-old. Furthermore, they claim to have found child pornography on both his personal cell phone and personal computer. The man had been convicted before on similar charges.

The man, on the other hand, claims that the girls who testified were conspiring against him and that the allegations are not true. He and his defense attorney are planning an appeal. The man says that he has reformed his life, found religion and was only helping people. He denies ever putting a person's life in danger.

Felony crimes, especially sex crimes, carry serious penalties -- as can be seen in this case. With any felony charge, people can be sentenced to over a year in prison and to large fines. With this sentence comes a criminal record which can haunt a person long after they are released from prison. A felon cannot vote, own firearms and may find it difficult to keep adequate employment or housing. In addition, sex offender registries can further limit where people can work, live and socialize.

Those accused of felony charges, especially sex crimes, need to take the charges seriously. Defenses are available to fight against the charges and give a person a chance at a positive future.
