Police and prosecutors often work together to ensure that anyone suspected of criminal activity faces punishment. They investigate, determine charges and pursue penalties.
One Portland man is now the subject of one of these investigations. On September 15, the man was arrested and charged with reckless driving, unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance, as well as felony attempt to elude. After his arrest, the man awaits criminal proceedings on these felonies in the Marion County jail.
His arrest, and subsequent charges, allegedly stem from a motorcycle chase with police. According to police, around 2:50 a.m. a police officer tried to stop the 26-year-old man while he rode his 1987 Suzuki motorcycle. Police claim that he was traveling near Woodburn on Interstate 5 at the time. He was allegedly driving around 90 miles-per-hour.
However, instead of pulling over, police claim that the man sped up his motorcycle to over 100 miles-per-hour and merged onto Highway 211. Allegedly, as more officers joined the chase, the man stopped his motorcycle nearly 30 minutes later. Police say the man then took off on foot near a Christmas tree farm. According to officers, cocaine was found near the abandoned motorcycle. The man was captured and arrested a short time later.
This man will likely face serious penalties, including a prison sentence, because of these charges. However, if the man chooses, he can try to reduce these penalties. Prosecutors are often willing to make deals with those accused of felonies. In these plea agreements, people agree to plead guilty in exchange for lesser charges.
With the right help, these agreements can quickly resolve criminal proceedings. They can result in shorter sentences and can allow the accused to get back to their life as quickly and easily as possible.
