Carey Meerdink is an experienced attorney and former judge.  Having conducted thousands of administrative hearings for state agencies, including Foster Care Licensing, Forced Medication, Implied Consent (DUII DMV Suspensions), Medicaid Fraud, and other difficult areas, Carey feels comfortable dealing with high stakes cases to help his clients find the best solutions.

After graduating from the Florida State University College of Law, Carey worked for Florida’s Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Office in Panama City, Florida.  Representing the best interests of abused, abandoned and neglected children helped him understand how to work with judges and opposing parties while dealing with serious allegations.

After one year at GAL, Carey was selected as an Administrative Law Judge in Oregon’s Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH).  During more than eight years at OAH, Carey worked in all of the state’s major program areas, including: Unemployment Insurance Benefits; DMV Suspensions and Revocations; Child Support; and DHS entitlement and licensing programs.  Carey was also selected to open the Oregon State Hospital Involuntary Medications hearings program, in which he has conducted many dozens of hearings.

Looking for a change of pace and an opportunity to help individuals, Carey recently joined the Short Law Group to assist clients facing a variety of misdemeanor, felony, and administrative licensing issues.  Many criminal charges often affect a defendant’s various professional licenses, including: Real Estate; Medical/Nursing; Teaching; Law Enforcement; Child Care; and many others.  Recognizing how to best move forward with both the criminal charges and possible licensing consequences, Carey can help clients make the best informed decisions available during these cases.

Carey is happily married with three teenage boys.  He loves traveling, camping, hiking, and exploring Oregon with his family.  He and his wife are both cinefiles (movie lovers) who have owned more DVDs and Blu-Rays than is reasonable.
